Protecting your Skin in your 20's for the Future

Part 1: Ageing is a fact, looking your age is not!

Basic skin structure

The epidermis is the outside layer and protects the underlying layers from the environment. This layer gives the skin protection, colour and waterproofing.

The second layer or dermis, the thickest layer of skin, contains cells that give skin its strength, support and flexibility, hair follicles and pain receptor. This is also where the fibroblasts are - collagen producing cells

Ageing is different to each individual

Genetics - This plays a important role in how we age, how your family ages provides a clips of how your face might change over time

Extrinsic factors - like sun over time, diet and lifestyle will affect premature ageing

Stage 1: Age 20-30

  • Increase free radical damage

  • Cell walls weaken allowing water loss

At this stage our skin might just be experiencing a little 'superficial' damage and so in our 20ies the key is definitely PREVENTION and PROTECTION!

1. Use Vit C

This is a potent antioxidant that will protect your skin from free radicals.

2. Always wear your SPF

Skipping sunscreen in our 20s accelerates sun damage from deep inside, resulting in the formation of dark spots on the outside.

3. Always remove your makeup

This will prevent any blockages in the skin.
